Aaron Michael Bailey, a 25-year-old African American male, was tragically killed during a home invasion in Durham, North Carolina, on February 19, 2022. The incident occurred at the Cadence at RTP apartment complex, where Bailey resided with his roommate, Elijah Hosea Everett, who was also 25 years old. The home invasion, which police believe was pre-planned, resulted in the deaths of both Bailey and Everett, as well as injuries to two other individuals.
According to reports, the
perpetrators cut the lights to the entire building before forcibly entering the apartment by kicking in the door. Once inside, they shot Bailey in the heart, causing his immediate death. Everett was also fatally shot during the invasion. The incident left the community in shock and mourning, as Bailey was remembered as a kind and caring individual who loved his family, basketball, music, and God.
In the aftermath of the tragic event, the Durham Police Department launched an investigation that led to the arrest of three suspects: Robert Edward Everett Jr., 27, Jamonty Green, 27, and Raymond Lewis, 26. The three men were charged with murder, attempted murder, and first-degree burglary. They are currently being held at the Durham County Detention Center without bond. It remains unclear whether the suspects knew the victims prior to the incident.
The arrests were part of a larger operation known as "Operation Washout," which involved multiple law enforcement agencies and resulted in the apprehension of 59 individuals for various drug and firearm offenses. The operation aimed to address violent crime in the area and bring justice to the victims and their families.
