William Franklin Davis Sr., a 42-year-old white male from Fayetteville, NC, tragically lost his life on March 19, 2022. He was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting that occurred at the Baymont Ramada hotel located at 1707 Owen Drive in Fayetteville. The incident, which also claimed the lives of Keith Allan Dickey, 37, of Lumber Bridge, and Donald Dillenbeck, 49, of Vestal, New York, stemmed from a confrontation between four rival biker gangs: the Hells Angels, Red Devils, Infamous Ryders, and La Familia.
The confrontation escalated into a deadly shootout, leaving three individuals dead and three others injured. The Fayetteville police responded to the scene just after 8:50 p.m. on the night of the incident. The investigation revealed that the altercation began earlier that day at an Exxon gas station located at 1717 Owen Drive, where an assault involving members of the rival biker gangs took place.
In the aftermath of the shooting, two men were arrested and charged in connection with the assault that occurred at the gas station. Dalton Emmanuel Laperriere, 26, of Clayton, faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and felony conspiracy. He received a $5,000 unsecured bond. Kerry Helms Lawing, 49, of Fayetteville, also faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and felony conspiracy. He received a $25,000 secured bond and remained in the Cumberland County Jail.
The investigation into the shooting and the events leading up to it involved local and federal agencies. Authorities reviewed hundreds of hours of private security camera footage, license plate reader data, and city-owned cameras to piece together the sequence of events. Despite the arrests related to the initial assault, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting itself.
William Franklin Davis Sr. was remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Crystalynn M. Davis, his two sons, William Davis Jr. and Brevin N. Clapp, and his five daughters, Tori Lee, Stephanie Davis, Brittney Burhop, Alexis Howard, and Jessica Howard. He was also survived by his mother, Helen Kilby, two brothers, William Monroe Davis and Roger Badger, three sisters, Gladys Davis, Patty Davis, and Linda Speight, and three grandchildren, Mariea, Ryker, and Brantley.
