Lakita Morring, a 40-year-old African American woman from Edenton, North Carolina, was tragically shot to death just after midnight on June 28, 2022. The incident occurred on NC32, north of Greenhall Road. The Chowan County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are actively investigating the case.
Following the investigation, two men were arrested and charged with her murder. Macendrick Amondez Smith, from Tyner, North Carolina, and Siete Tyhee Lee Baker, from Ahoskie, were both apprehended and charged with felony murder. Additionally, two women, Brandi Lynn Miller and Grace Marie Carter, were arrested and charged with accessory after the fact. Smith and Baker were denied bond, while Miller and Carter were held on a $25,000 bond each.
The investigation revealed that Morring was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on NC32 when shots were fired into the vehicle from another vehicle. The joint efforts of the Chowan County Sheriff's Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the Gates County Sheriff's Office led to the arrests of the suspects. The case remains under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.
