Kianna Necole Newborn, a 25-year-old woman from Kinston, NC, tragically lost her life on July 3, 2022. On that fateful day, at approximately 4:20 am, Kinston Police Officers responded to a report of a person shot at a residence on the 300 block of Sunshine Street. Upon arrival, officers found Kianna Newborn deceased as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation revealed that this incident was isolated, and Kinston Police Detectives have been diligently working to identify the perpetrator.
In addition to Kianna's death, two other individuals arrived at the Emergency Room of UNC Lenoir with gunshot wounds shortly after the initial incident. The investigation determined that all three individuals were shot during the same event. Later that evening, at approximately 6:30 pm, Kinston Police Officers responded to another shooting on the 200 block of South Adkin Street, where they found Michael Davis Jr., a 42-year-old man from Kinston, with multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Davis was transported to ECU Health Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators are working to determine if this incident is related to the earlier shooting involving Kianna Newborn.
The Kinston Police Department has placed the highest priority on investigating these violent crimes and continues to seek assistance from the community. They have urged anyone with information about these incidents to contact the Kinston Police Department's Tips Line or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers. Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous, and callers may be eligible for a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
As of now, the investigation into Kianna Necole Newborn's death is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. The community remains hopeful that justice will be served for Kianna and the other victims involved in these tragic events.
