Cesar Ivan Viera-Medina, a 33-year-old male, was fatally shot on August 11, 2022, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 8:13 PM when officers from the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of North Windsor Drive in response to a robbery involving a stolen firearm. Shortly after, at approximately 8:21 PM, officers were called to the 200 block of South Windsor Drive, where shots had been fired, and Viera-Medina was found with gunshot wounds to his
arm and chest. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect in the case, 19-year-old Karon Peair Streets, was identified by the Fayetteville Police Department. Streets allegedly stole a handgun from a family member on North Windsor Drive and then used it to open fire on a residence on South Windsor Drive. Streets was considered armed and dangerous, with warrants issued for his arrest on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied property, and felony larceny. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the relationship between Streets and Viera-Medina has not been determined.
Streets was eventually apprehended in Maryland by the Baltimore County Police Department's Fugitive Unit on August 13, 2022. He is expected to be extradited back to North Carolina to face prosecution for the murder of Cesar Ivan Viera-Medina.
