Carlos "Nephew" Chrisp, a 37-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on September 23, 2022, in Selma, North Carolina. Born on January 13, 1985, in Wake County, North Carolina, Carlos was known for his cheerful attitude and bright smile, which left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He obtained his GED at Martin Community College in Windsor, NC, and worked as a laborer with plans to obtain his CDL to drive trucks across the country.
Carlos was affectionately known as "Neff" or "Lil Man" by many and was the life of every party, often found hanging out with family and friends, creating laughter, and enjoying life.
On the evening of September 23, 2022, Carlos Chrisp was shot and killed just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of South Raiford Street and Jones Avenue in Selma. The incident occurred during an argument between Carlos and Decarrius Tinsley, a 35-year-old male from Selma. The altercation escalated, resulting in Carlos being shot twice in the chest. The Selma Police Department responded to the scene and arrested Decarrius Tinsley on murder charges. The handgun believed to be the murder weapon was found on the pavement at the scene of the crime. Investigators revealed that Carlos and Decarrius knew each other prior to the shooting.
Following the arrest, Decarrius Tinsley was charged with murder and is currently being held at the Johnston County Detention Center without bond. The case has garnered significant attention in the local community, with many mourning the loss of Carlos Chrisp and seeking justice for his untimely death. His mother, Gloria Chrisp, and his siblings, Gloria Chrisp, Decole Chrisp, Demeaze Chrisp, Danuel Surles, Quinntes Chrisp, and Damaine Chrisp, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends, also mourn his loss. Carlos's cheerful demeanor and bright smile will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
