On a summer evening in Detroit, Michigan, a Fourth of July block party in 2016 turned into a scene of tragedy, forever altering the lives of one family. At the gathering in the 5300 block of Cooper Street, between Barker and Moffat Avenue, shots rang out, striking 21-year-old Lamonte Jacobs. He succumbed to his injuries the following day, on July 5, 2016.
