Marshal Riley Bowman Wright, a 35-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, was shot and killed on February 21, 1904, in Winnfield, Louisiana. Wright was a deputy marshal who was attempting to arrest a suspect for operating an illegal establishment known as a "blind tiger." During the arrest attempt, the suspect shot Wright, leading to his death.
Following Wright's death, the suspect fled but was later arrested in New Mexico two months later. The suspect was then extradited back to Winnfield,
