City Marshal Cameron Coffin, aged 32, was shot and killed on July 9, 1906, in Jennings, Louisiana. Coffin, who had served with the Jennings Police Department for only one month, was killed in a tailor shop on South Main Street. The incident occurred when Coffin ordered a man, described as a desperate character who continuously caused trouble, to leave town. The suspect shot Coffin and was subsequently killed minutes later by an angry mob of citizens.
