Deputy Sheriff William Shoemake, aged 30, was shot and killed on October 27, 1906, in DeQuincy, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Shoemake, who had served with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office for six months, was killed by a liquor dealer named Lee Coleman.
