Deputy Sheriff John C. Adams, aged 48, was shot and killed on March 12, 1910, while attempting to arrest a man for stealing a horse five miles south of Delhi, Franklin Parish, Louisiana. The suspect, who was shot and killed by a posse the following day in Richland Parish, was identified as the perpetrator. Deputy Adams had served with the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office for eight years and was survived by his two sons and brother, who was the Franklin Parish sheriff.
