Town Marshal Christopher C. Chenault, aged 54, was shot and killed on June 17, 1910, in Rayville, Louisiana. Chenault was attempting to arrest a blacksmith named J.C. Freeman, who was having a disagreement with his employer over the ownership of tools. The employer called Marshal Chenault after Freeman threatened him.
