David Peter Hampton Sr., a 22-year-old male, was a police officer with the Lake Charles Police Department in Louisiana. On December 2, 1982, Officer Hampton was fatally shot during a traffic stop near the intersection of Boston Alley and Mill Street. He and his training officer had stopped a vehicle and were in the process of issuing a ticket when one of the three occupants attacked them. During the ensuing struggle, shots were fired, and Officer Hampton was mortally wounded.
