In the late summer of 2007, a dedicated 34-year-old male detective with the Bastrop Police Department, Charles “Chuck” Wilson, tragically lost his life in the line of duty. On Friday, August 10, 2007, Detective Wilson and his partner, Detective John Smith, were following up on a theft investigation at a hotel in Bastrop's main square. The two officers were unaware that their routine investigation was about to place them in the path of dangerous fugitives.
