Juan Carter, a 26-year-old African-American man, was shot and killed in New Orleans on July 7, 2011. On that Thursday, Carter was traveling with his mother to a court hearing where he was scheduled to face a double murder charge from a 2010 incident. As they were on their way, a black truck pulled up alongside their vehicle, and an occupant opened fire, striking and killing Carter.
