In the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans, a community was shaken by the violent death of 29-year-old Kendrell 'Kat' Glover. On the evening of Friday, May 17, 2013, just two days before what would have been her 30th birthday, Glover was walking home from a friend's house. As she made her way along the 1200 block of Horace Street, a black Nissan Titan pickup truck, reportedly occupied by two men, pulled up beside her.
One of the men exited the vehicle and opened fire, striking Glover and causing her to fall to the ground.
The assailant then stood over her and fired multiple additional shots. In total, Glover was shot eight times in front of a small church, the Greater Cypress Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Her mother, Cynthia Glover, was nearby and heard every gunshot. For Cynthia, this was the second time she had lost a child to violence; her son had been murdered 16 years prior. Kendrell was remembered by her family as a 'mama's girl' with a vibrant personality.
For years, the case of Kendrell Glover's murder remained with few public developments.
