In a tragic turn of events on a Wednesday evening in Denham Springs, Louisiana, the life of Aleria Cyrus Reed was cut short. On January 15, 2014, the 35-year-old female became a victim of fatal gun violence inside a home on Grand Turk Drive. Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies were called to the residence around 7 p.m. following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered a grim scene. Aleria Cyrus Reed and her estranged husband, 38-year-old Marlon J.
Reed Sr., were both found deceased, each with apparent gunshot wounds. The investigation that followed determined that the incident was a murder-suicide. It was concluded that Marlon Reed Sr. had shot his wife before taking his own life.
At the time of the incident, the couple was separated. Aleria had moved out of the family home and was residing with relatives in Baton Rouge, while Marlon continued to live at the Denham Springs residence with their two small children. Reed Sr. is considered closed as the sole suspect in her murder is also deceased.
