On a summer evening in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, 16-year-old Jamarcus Gay, a male student and wrestler at Airline High School, was tragically killed. The incident, which cut short a promising young life, occurred on June 18, 2017. The community was left in shock and mourning for the teenager remembered fondly by his family and friends.
In the wake of the shooting, the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation to piece together the events of that fatal night and bring the
person responsible to justice. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect, Kardetric Da'Quan Scott, a then 19-year-old from Springhill. The investigation moved forward, and in October 2017, a Bossier Parish grand jury handed down an indictment against Scott, formally charging him with second-degree murder in connection with Jamarcus Gay's death.
Following the indictment, the legal process continued to unfold. After a series of court proceedings, Kardetric Da'Quan Scott faced a jury of his peers. The trial concluded in May 2019 with the jury finding him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter. For his role in the death of Jamarcus Gay, Scott was subsequently sentenced to 30 years in prison.
