On a December day in Baton Rouge, Brandon Collins, a 28-year-old male, was at a barbershop with his two children. He stepped outside to take a phone call, a seemingly ordinary moment that would turn tragic. As he stood by his car, two men approached him, and multiple gunshots shattered the afternoon calm. The assailants fled the scene on foot, leaving Collins with life-threatening injuries.
He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his wounds on January 4, 2018.
The investigation into the shooting at the House of Style on Maplewood Drive led Baton Rouge police to identify a suspect. Witnesses described one of the men as wearing a red jacket and red pants. Investigators discovered a maroon Chevy Malibu parked nearby that the suspects attempted to use as a getaway car, but it failed to start. This vehicle was linked to 24-year-old Dominic Blunt.
Authorities located Blunt's car and inside found a red jacket and a gun. Following this discovery, Dominic Blunt was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies. At the scene of the crime, police collected nine. 40 caliber bullet casings as evidence.
