In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 23, 2019, the community of Lake Providence, Louisiana, was shaken by an act of violence that claimed the life of 37-year-old Cheryl Latoya Lewis. The incident unfolded in front of Blackberry's Bar and Billiards, where a dispute escalated into a fatal shooting, leaving two other individuals critically injured.
Lewis was discovered beside a gas line adjacent to the building.
The investigation, a joint effort between the East Carroll Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police, quickly led to a suspect. Authorities identified 34-year-old Quinishia Sanders of Epps as the alleged shooter. According to law enforcement, an altercation involving several people at the bar preceded the shooting. It is believed that Sanders either had a firearm or left to retrieve one, returning to the club where the deadly shots were fired.
Following the investigation, Quinishia Sanders was taken into custody and faced serious charges for her alleged role in the incident. She was charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of Cheryl Latoya Lewis and two counts of attempted second-degree murder for the injuries sustained by the other two victims. The identities of the two wounded individuals were not publicly released as they were receiving medical care for their critical injuries.
