In the small community of Natalbany, Louisiana, a violent altercation tragically cut short the life of 13-year-old Robert Stevenson. The young male was fatally wounded on the evening of Thursday, April 18, 2019, amidst a chaotic scene that had erupted into gunfire.
That evening, deputies from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Magee Road where a large and volatile disturbance was underway.
During the turmoil, gunshots were fired, and Stevenson was struck in the chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators quickly identified a suspect. Rickey Nelson, a 54-year-old man from the nearby town of Independence, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. Authorities charged Nelson with manslaughter as they continued to delve into the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.
