The couple was engaged in conversation when an unknown individual approached the vehicle and opened fire, striking Mitchell-Long multiple times.

had emerged from the passenger side of a truck. After the shooting, he got back into the vehicle, which then fled the scene, traveling eastbound on Verne Avenue towards Greenfield. The driver of the truck was not identified as the person of interest. In the wake of the violence, family and friends were left grappling with the sudden and senseless loss of a young man they described as having a beautiful spirit and a love for making people laugh.

In an effort to generate leads, Crime Stoppers of Michigan offered a cash reward of up to $2,500 for any information that would lead to an arrest in the murder of Jabril Mitchell-Long.
