In the quiet town of Minden, Louisiana, a tragedy unfolded in the early morning hours of July 17, 2019, forever altering the lives of one family. NaToyedre Barrow, a 19-year-old Black female who was eight months pregnant, was resting inside her apartment on Carolina Street when her life, and that of her unborn child, was abruptly taken. The stillness of the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire as multiple rounds were discharged from outside the residence, tearing through the walls of the
apartment.
Investigators at the scene determined that at least six shots had been fired into the dwelling. Tragically, one of these bullets struck NaToyedre in the shoulder, and due to the position she was in, the projectile entered her body, causing a fatal wound. At the time of the incident, three other individuals were present in the apartment with Barrow, including her other young child, none of whom sustained any physical injuries. The senseless act of violence left a community in shock and a family grappling with an unimaginable loss.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Minden Police Department launched an intensive investigation into the homicide. Authorities announced that they had detained a person of interest in connection with the case and had also recovered a firearm that they believed to be the weapon used in the commission of the crime.
