In the fall of 2019, the life of 33-year-old Andre Johnson was violently cut short in what began as a robbery attempt inside his Slidell, Louisiana apartment. On the morning of October 18th, four teenagers, identified as 17-year-old Jawuan Wilson, 18-year-old Nicholas Ordogne, 18-year-old Revonte Charles, and 16-year-old Jaydin Charles, went to Johnson's residence with the intent to rob him of marijuana.
The encounter escalated into a struggle, during which Johnson was fatally shot.
Johnson's fiancée was present in the apartment at the time of the incident. Awakened by the sound of gunshots, she witnessed a male figure fleeing through the back door. Following the shooting, the four teenagers fled the scene but were apprehended by law enforcement on the perimeter of the Slidell Housing Authority.
Initially, Wilson, Ordogne, and Revonte Charles were charged with second-degree murder, with Ordogne facing an additional charge for marijuana possession. The juvenile, Jaydin Charles, was also charged with second-degree murder and illegal possession of a stolen firearm. In January 2020, a St. Tammany Parish grand jury indicted all four on the charge of second-degree murder. Ordogne, Wilson, and Revonte Charles were also indicted for conspiracy to commit armed robbery with a firearm.
Ultimately, the four young men pleaded guilty to lesser charges. In August 2021, Nicholas Ordogne, then 20, Revonte Charles, 20, Jawaun Wilson, 19, and Jaydin Charles, 18, all entered guilty pleas to assorted manslaughter charges. They received sentences ranging from 25 to 50 years in prison for their roles in the death of Andre Johnson.
