In the quiet town of Bernice, Louisiana, a tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of 25-year-old Sharmaine Brown. On a late December day in 2019, Sharmaine was sitting in the backseat of a silver Chevrolet Impala with her boyfriend in the parking lot of their apartment complex. It was in this seemingly ordinary setting that a fatal gunshot shattered the peace, striking Sharmaine in the head.
Following the shooting, her body was left in the parking lot as her boyfriend fled the scene in
the same vehicle. Sharmaine was rushed to Reeves Memorial Hospital, but her injuries proved to be too severe, and she was pronounced dead. Her body was subsequently sent to Little Rock for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death. The incident left the community in shock and mourning the loss of a young life.
The investigation quickly identified her 25-year-old boyfriend as the primary suspect. Law enforcement officials pieced together the events leading to Sharmaine's death and issued warrants for his arrest on charges of negligent homicide and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
