In the early spring of 2020, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, the life of 28-year-old Johneisha 'Johnny' Murphy, a Black female, was tragically cut short. On the evening of March 11, officers were called to the scene where they discovered Murphy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced deceased at the location.
The initial investigation quickly determined that Murphy's death was a homicide, prompting a search for those responsible.
The case drew significant attention as law enforcement officials diligently pursued leads to understand the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. The community mourned the loss of Johneisha, remembered by friends and family for her outgoing personality and big heart. The investigation into her murder continued for several months as authorities worked to piece together the evidence and identify a suspect.
A break in the case came in October 2020, when a suspect was apprehended in Arlington, Texas. Demontre's Turner was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Johneisha 'Johnny' Murphy's death. Following his capture, Turner was extradited back to Louisiana to face legal proceedings. He is currently being held in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
