On March 5, 1983, Robin Benedict, a 21-year-old sex worker from Boston, Massachusetts, disappeared after visiting the home of Tufts University professor William Douglas in Sharon. Benedict, an aspiring artist who had dropped out of the Rhode Island School of Design, met Douglas in Boston's Combat Zone, a notorious red-light district, where he became obsessed with her.
