In a tragic turn of events, 37-year-old Hope Nettleton, a female resident of Montegut, Louisiana, was killed on January 13, 2021, in a murder-for-hire plot that went tragically wrong. Nettleton was visiting her friend, Brittany Cormier, at Cormier's home when the violence erupted.
The incident was the result of a botched hit orchestrated by Beaux Cormier, Brittany's brother. Cormier had hired two men, Andrew Eskine and Dalvin Wilson, to murder his niece, who had accused him of rape.
The intention was to prevent her from testifying against him. However, the plan took a fatal detour when the gunman, identified as Dalvin Wilson, arrived at Brittany Cormier's residence seeking the intended victim.
In a heroic act to protect her niece, Brittany Cormier falsely identified herself as the target and was fatally shot. Hope Nettleton, who was present during the confrontation, attempted to intervene and was also killed by the gunman.
Following the double homicide, investigators quickly unraveled the murder-for-hire scheme. Beaux Cormier, Andrew Eskine, and Dalvin Wilson were arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The investigation revealed that Eskine had assisted in planning the crime and provided the vehicle used. Authorities reported that the men had made a previous unsuccessful attempt to carry out the murder. The district attorney for Terrebonne Parish has indicated that the death penalty is a possibility in this case.
