In a tragic turn of events on January 13, 2021, 34-year-old Brittany Jane Cormier, a Caucasian female from Montegut, Louisiana, was killed in a murder-for-hire plot that was set in motion by her own brother. The intended target of this sinister plan was not Brittany, but rather her niece, who was poised to testify against Brittany's brother, Beaux Andrew Cormier, in a rape case.
In a final, heroic act of love, Brittany Cormier identified herself as the intended victim to the hired killer, thereby sacrificing her own life to save her niece.
The grim affair began when Beaux Cormier, already a convicted sex offender, hired two men, Dalvin Montae Wilson and Andrew James Eskine, to murder his niece. The motive was to prevent her from testifying against him in an upcoming trial for third-degree rape. Beaux Cormier had agreed to pay the men, with a portion paid upfront and the remainder to be paid after the murder was carried out. On the night of the incident, Wilson and Eskine went to Brittany Cormier’s residence in search of their target.
When the two men arrived and asked for the rape victim by name, Brittany Cormier selflessly claimed to be the person they were looking for. Wilson then fatally shot her. In the ensuing chaos, a neighbor, 37-year-old Hope Danos Nettleton, who was visiting at the time, attempted to intervene and was also tragically killed. During the horrific events, Brittany's daughter, the actual target of the hit, was able to hide in a closet and contact the authorities.
The investigation that followed quickly unraveled the murder-for-hire scheme, leading to the arrests of Beaux Cormier, Dalvin Wilson, and Andrew Eskine. All three were charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Investigators learned that Wilson and Eskine had conducted surveillance on the residence on a prior occasion in a failed attempt to carry out the murder. During legal proceedings in a Terrebonne Parish courthouse, Dalvin Wilson was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Brittany Cormier and the second-degree murder of Hope Nettleton. He was also convicted of the attempted first-degree murder of the intended victim. Wilson is facing two mandatory life sentences for the murders. Beaux Cormier is currently awaiting his trial on two counts of first-degree murder.
