In the early hours of Sunday, June 3, 2007, the body of 17-year-old African-American male Mariotis Harris was discovered in a wooded area in Boston, Massachusetts. Police responded to a call at 12:30 a.m. and found Harris in the woods near 90 Lorna Road in the Mattapan neighborhood. The discovery was made in a secluded area known as the Gladeside Urban Wild.
An investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Harris's death was a homicide. The cause of death was a gunshot wound. Reports later indicated that he had been shot in the back of the head, suggesting he had been led into the woods before being killed. At the time of the discovery, the Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit immediately began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man's death.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have ever been publicly announced in connection with the murder of Mariotis Harris. In the months following the incident, police reports indicated that the case remained open and under investigation. As of late 2007, there had been no information released about any potential suspects or persons of interest in the case. The homicide of Mariotis Harris is considered to be unsolved.
