In the late afternoon of February 16, 2021, the sounds of gunfire shattered the quiet of a neighborhood in Abbeville, Louisiana. When police arrived at the scene on Green Street, near its intersection with South Lamar Street, they discovered a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The man was identified as 32-year-old Brandon Johnson of Abbeville.
Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led detectives to identify a suspect, Justin Williams, also of Abbeville. In a development to the case, it was found that Williams was already incarcerated on unrelated weapons charges and probation violations at the time the arrest warrant for the murder of Johnson was secured.
Following the investigation, Justin Williams was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies, and illegal use of weapons. The Abbeville Police Department continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and indicated that more arrests were possible. They appealed to the public for any information regarding the case.
