On the evening of June 10, 2021, a domestic dispute in Folsom, Louisiana, escalated into a fatal encounter for 55-year-old Darren Husak. A white male from Franklinton, Husak had arrived at the Valley Court home of his ex-sister-in-law. His presence was unwelcome, and despite repeated requests for him to leave the property, he refused. The situation grew increasingly tense, prompting the homeowner to call her son for assistance.
Her son, 30-year-old Steven Bent, arrived at the residence
and confronted Husak. The confrontation reached a tragic climax when Bent shot Husak in the chest with a shotgun. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the scene around 7 p.m. following reports of the shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Husak with the fatal wound. The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and cause of death.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Steven Bent was arrested and taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on one count of second-degree murder. Sheriff Randy Smith commented on the incident, noting it as another instance of a domestic matter turning deadly and expressed his condolences to the family members involved.
