In the quiet community of Folsom, Louisiana, the life of Dr. Wayne Breen, a respected 65-year-old obstetrician-gynecologist, was cut short on March 1, 2015. The male physician was found dead in his home from two gunshot wounds to the chest. His wife, Kacie Breen, was the one who notified authorities, claiming she had shot her husband in an act of self-defense during a heated argument that turned physically violent.
The couple's relationship was reportedly tumultuous, with a history of
domestic troubles that included a restraining order Kacie had filed against her husband in 2012. According to Kacie Breen's account of the fatal night, she and her husband awoke in the early morning hours and began to argue about their relationship. She stated that the argument escalated, leading to a physical altercation that prompted her to shoot him.
Following an investigation by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, the case was presented to the District Attorney's office. In April 2016, a St. Tammany Parish grand jury declined to indict Kacie Breen in her husband's death. The District Attorney, Warren Montgomery, stated that all available evidence had been presented to the grand jury, including the findings of a crime scene reconstruction expert who found no evidence to contradict Kacie Breen's self-defense claim. Ultimately, the grand jury determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a trial and warrant a conviction.
