In the summer of 2021, a verbal altercation in a parking lot on Lone Oak Drive in Baton Rouge tragically cut short the life of 32-year-old Candis Burton. On Saturday, June 26, 2021, Burton was involved in a dispute with another individual when a man allegedly shot her. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Authorities with the Baton Rouge Police Department swiftly identified a suspect in the shooting.
Carlton Williams, a 37-year-old from New Orleans, was taken into custody in connection with Burton's death. Investigators believe that Williams was the one who fired the weapon during the course of the argument.
Following his arrest, Williams was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He is facing charges of second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Candis Burton.
