In the early morning hours of July 28, 2021, the life of 33-year-old Darnell D. Smith, an African American male, was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. in the Queensborough neighborhood, a community that would become the backdrop for the city's 54th homicide of the year.
Shreveport Police officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of West Caperton Street where they discovered Smith unresponsive outside of a residence.
