In the early morning hours of August 4, 2021, the life of 34-year-old Jeremiah Williams, a male resident of Schriever, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. Williams was discovered inside his Hyundai Elantra, which had crashed into a house. It was soon determined that he had been the victim of a fatal shooting.
The investigation into his death led authorities to piece together the events of that morning through security footage and community leads.
The video evidence revealed that at least two vehicles were involved in the shooting. The diligent work of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the community in Johnson Ridge and surrounding areas in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, proved crucial in identifying those responsible for Williams's death.
Within a short period, five male suspects were apprehended in connection with the homicide. The individuals arrested were identified as 22-year-old Leon Cammack of Thibodaux, 18-year-old Jamyre Mitchell of Lafayette, and three men from Thibodaux: 18-year-old Caden Johnson, 21-year-old Christopher Cammack, and 21-year-old Kobe Wilson. One of the suspects, Leon Cammack, was located and arrested in Centerville, Mississippi, before being extradited to Terrebonne Parish.
All five men were charged with second-degree murder. If convicted, they each face a mandatory sentence of life in prison. The arrests brought a sense of resolution to the community, highlighting the effectiveness of collaboration between law enforcement and local residents in bringing suspects to justice.
