On a Thursday afternoon, the life of 17-year-old De'Anthony Walker, an African American male, was violently ended as he walked home from school in Shreveport, Louisiana. The date was January 27, 2022, when Walker was gunned down in the Allendale neighborhood on the 1400 block of Harvard Avenue shortly after 4 p.m. Witnesses described seeing a car approach Walker before gunshots were fired and he attempted to flee. He was struck by multiple bullets and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the shooting led Shreveport Police to a vehicle they believed was connected to a carjacking. Two days after the murder, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, leading to a police chase that ended in a crash. The occupants fled on foot, but three were quickly apprehended by the pursuing officers. The suspects were identified as 16-year-olds Antonio Tyrone Bryant Jr., Eric Dewayne Green, and Marquise Tremell Starks. All three teenagers were subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with Walker's death.
The case against the three teens proceeded through the justice system, and they were indicted on second-degree murder charges by a Caddo Parish Grand Jury. The investigation revealed that Green, then 19, exited the vehicle and fired a 9mm handgun at Walker 17 times. After Walker fell, another person from the car reportedly shot him at point-blank range. Eric Dewayne Green was the first of the three defendants to be tried. In April 2025, he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of DeAnthony Walker. Due to his being a juvenile at the time of the crime, he will be eligible for parole.
