In a quiet home in Anacoco, Louisiana, the life of 36-year-old Rebecca Freeney came to a tragic end on Monday, April 25, 2022. The discovery was made in the afternoon after concerns were raised about the well-being of Freeney and her partner, Shawn Raines. When authorities entered the residence on Maddox Road, they found both Freeney and the 49-year-old Raines deceased inside a bedroom from what appeared to be fatal gunshot wounds.
Investigators with the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office
quickly determined the incident was an apparent murder-suicide. The bedroom door had been locked from the inside, and the weapon believed to have been used in both deaths was found with Raines. A thorough examination of the scene led detectives and the deputy coroner to conclude that Raines had shot and killed Freeney before turning the gun on himself. This conclusion meant there were no outstanding suspects in Freeney's death.
The grim discovery was initiated when Raines' brother, who had not heard from him in several days, went to the house to check on him. Upon his arrival, he found the couple's three children, aged 14, 13, and 11, who had been away for part of the weekend and were unable to find their parents upon their return. Further investigation revealed a history of domestic violence involving the couple, with a prior incident reported in 2020.
