A bright winter afternoon turned tragic for 14-year-old Deyquan Gomez, an African-American male, on February 10, 2010. Around 3:15 p.m., the ninth-grader from Mattapan was shot multiple times in front of 619 Cummins Highway in Boston. Rushed to Brigham and Women's Hospital, the young man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, leaving a community in shock and a family heartbroken.
