Herbert Jesse Noakes Jr., a 31-year-old white male, was tragically killed on November 17, 1974, in Hammond, Indiana, just a week before his planned wedding. Born on November 3, 1943, in Evansville, Indiana, Herbert was the son of Herbert Jesse Noakes Sr. and Mamie Lee Davis Noakes. His untimely death left his fiancée, Catherine E. Mensing, deeply shaken and unable to discuss the events of that fateful night even years later.
