On a late summer evening in Boston, the life of 18-year-old Jeremy Price, a Black male, was cut short by a single gunshot. On September 6, 2010, at approximately 8:39 p.m., police responded to a call for shots fired on Astoria Street in the Mattapan neighborhood. There, they found Price suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the city's 46th homicide of the year began immediately, with police searching for a black Suzuki that was reportedly seen in the area following the shooting. However, no arrests were made in the immediate aftermath, and the case remains an active investigation. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, offering anonymity to those who wish to provide tips.
Jeremy Price's life had been marked by tragedy and interaction with the justice system. At the age of 15, he was charged with manslaughter in the 2007 death of 41-year-old Michael Hansbury. Price, who was determined to have a low IQ, allegedly punched Hansbury, who then fell, hit his head, and died a week later. The manslaughter case against Price was ultimately dismissed in July 2010 after he was found mentally incompetent to stand trial. A judge had made efforts to place Price in various support programs, but he had a history of leaving these facilities. Just months after the case against him was dismissed, and shortly after his 18th birthday, Price was killed. His funeral was held on September 13, 2010, at the Greater Love Tabernacle Church in Dorchester, and he was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery.
