Marshal Roy L. Frakes, a 30-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on July 20, 1992, in Chicago, Illinois. Frakes, who was serving as a Deputy U.S. Marshal, was killed in a shootout outside the Everett M. Dirksen U.S. Courthouse. The incident occurred when a prisoner, who had managed to remove his handcuffs with a smuggled key, attempted to escape from the courthouse.
