In the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, on the afternoon of March 24, 2011, a burst of gunfire shattered the daily rhythm at the intersection of Norfolk and Whitman streets. When the sound faded, 17-year-old Khris Mckinney, a young African-American male, was left fatally wounded. The Boston Police Department responded to a call about a person shot around 3:10 p.m. and found the teenager at the scene. He was pronounced deceased, and his death was later determined to be a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement began their search for those responsible. Police were looking for two Black males who were reportedly seen leaving the area in a red truck that had New York license plates. This initial lead, however, did not immediately result in any arrests, and the case has remained a painful open wound for the community and Mckinney's family.
Years have passed since Khris Mckinney's life was cut short, but the case is officially listed by the Boston Police Department as an unsolved homicide. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly named or apprehended in connection with his death. The department continues to seek information from the public, hoping that someone will come forward with the key piece of evidence that will bring closure to a case that has remained cold for over a decade.
