Rachel Taylor, a 22-year-old woman from Aurora, IL, tragically lost her life on January 13, 2014. Rachel, who was a loving mother to two children, Daijanae and Christopher Whetstone-Taylor, was fatally shot by her boyfriend, Christopher Whetstone. The incident occurred outside Whetstone's residence on Charles Street in Aurora. Rachel had driven to his home to allow him to see their children and to inform him that their relationship was over. During an argument, Whetstone shot Rachel once in the chest. Despite her attempts to flee, he pursued her and shot her twice more in the abdomen. Rachel was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Christopher Whetstone, who was 49 years old at the time, was quickly apprehended by the police. He was charged with first-degree murder and was later convicted by a Kane County jury. The trial revealed that Whetstone had a history of domestic violence, with multiple prior convictions. The jury found that Whetstone had personally discharged the firearm that killed Rachel, leading to a mandatory minimum sentence of 45 years. However, due to the severity of the crime and his previous record, Whetstone was sentenced to 60 years in prison. This sentence included an additional 25 years because he personally fired the gun that resulted in Rachel's death.

Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that Whetstone's inability to control his anger had devastating effects on his family.
