Matthew Madsen Anderson, a 15-year-old male from Rock Falls, Illinois, tragically passed away on March 1, 2014. Matthew, known as Matt, was a freshman at Rock Falls Township High School and was actively involved in sports, including football and basketball. He was a member of the 2011 and 2013 Rock Falls Little League State Champion teams and played on the undefeated Rock Falls High School freshman football team.
Matt was well-liked by his peers and had a reputation for his dedication and love for the game.
On the day of his death, Matt was involved in an accidental shooting at the home of an Illinois State trooper. The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. and involved two teenage boys. Matt, who was not related to the trooper's family, suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The Illinois State Police Lieutenant Victor Markowski confirmed that the shooting was accidental.
Following the incident, grief counselors were made available to students and staff at Rock Falls Township High School to help them cope with the loss. The community mourned the loss of Matt, and a Facebook page was created in his honor, which garnered over 2,000 shares. Suggestions were made for students to wear black and green at school on the following Monday as a tribute to Matt.
There were no arrests or suspects in connection with Matt's death, as it was determined to be an accidental shooting. Consequently, there were no litigations, murder charges, or law cases related to his death. The community of Rock Falls came together to support Matt's family and honor his memory through various tributes and memorials.
