Latino male, age 33, Sam Aguilar was gunned down just after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, on a sidewalk near 63rd Street and Francisco Avenue in Chicago's Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
According to authorities, a gold or beige Nissan Maxima rolled north on Francisco, the rear passenger extended an arm from a window and fired about five shots, striking the 33-year-old.
He was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and pronounced dead at 10:16 a.m.; records also list him as
living on the 1500 block of West Walton Street in West Town.
Police officers on patrol witnessed the drive-by and immediately pursued the car, following it through an alley between 60th and 61st Place until it stopped in the 6000 block of South Central Park.
A sergeant saw the driver bail out and chased him; during the struggle the driver turned on the sergeant and reached for his gun before being taken down. Another occupant also fled but was detained around the corner.
By Thursday, two suspects were charged: Christian Alvarez, 18, and Antonio Castaneda, 31, each with first-degree murder; Castaneda also faced counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and attempting to disarm a peace officer.
A judge ordered Alvarez held without bond and set Castaneda's bond at $1 million.
An additional witness identified both men in a lineup, and police noted a third person had been in the vehicle but was not charged. Case listings describe the shooting as a drive-by.
