On the evening of January 23, 2015, 18-year-old Tyree D. Harris lost his life to the senseless violence that has plagued Chicago for far too long. Tyree, a young African American man, was standing outside in the 6800 block of South Western Avenue when an unidentified assailant approached and, without hesitation, shot him in the head. The brutal act, occurring in a city all too familiar with such tragedies, left another young life cut short and another family shattered by grief.
