The shooting that claimed Blakes' life also resulted in the death of another individual, Kwamaine Lovette, a 22-year-old African American male, who was shot in the chest and died at Mount Sinai Hospital. Ricky Dortch, a 29-year-old male, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. His bond was set at $1 million. Another suspect, 19-year-old Frank Robinson, was also charged with first-degree murder. Witnesses identified Robinson as the shooter who exited a vehicle and opened fire on the group. Robinson was held without bond, and both suspects faced multiple court appearances as the legal proceedings unfolded.
