Ryan Nicholson, a 17-year-old male from Jefferson Park, Chicago, IL, tragically passed away on October 24, 2015. The circumstances surrounding his death were deeply distressing, as it was the result of a fatal shooting. Ryan, who was a beloved son and brother, was involved in an argument with his older brother, Brad Nicholson, who was 18 years old at the time.
The incident occurred in their family home located in the 5100 block of North Austin Avenue.
On the afternoon of October 23, 2015, an argument broke out between Brad Nicholson and his parents, which later escalated to include Ryan. The brothers continued their argument in the bedroom they shared. During the altercation, Brad Nicholson retrieved a loaded .45 caliber handgun and pointed it at Ryan. Despite Ryan's attempts to shield himself by covering his face with his hands, Brad fired a single shot. The bullet passed through Ryan's left hand and entered his head, ultimately causing his death. Ryan was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge early the next morning.
Following the shooting, Brad Nicholson was charged with first-degree murder. He was held on a $750,000 bond and appeared in court on November 13, 2015. The case drew significant attention due to the familial nature of the crime and the young ages of both the victim and the perpetrator.
