Do you know who murdered Alex Dosouto? On the cold winter night of January 8, 2015, Alex Dosouto, a 24-year-old Black male from Dorchester, became the first homicide victim of the year in Boston. At approximately 10:45 PM, gunfire erupted on Harrishof Street in the Roxbury neighborhood. When police arrived, they discovered a tragic scene: Dosouto and three other individuals inside a vehicle, all suffering from gunshot wounds.
Dosouto was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other occupants of the car, two men aged 20 and 22, and a 24-year-old woman, were rushed to area hospitals. The two men sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the woman was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Residents in the vicinity reported hearing between five and ten gunshots in rapid succession. Law enforcement officials stated that the attack appeared to be a targeted event. Despite the active and ongoing investigation by the Boston Police Department's Homicide Unit, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, offering the option of anonymous tips through the CrimeStoppers Tip Line.
In the wake of his death, those who knew Alex Dosouto remembered a young man who seemed to be turning his life around. He was a student at Roxbury Community College, where he was a guard on the basketball team. His life, however, had been touched by violence before. Dosouto had previously served a two-to-three-year prison sentence for his role as the driver in an armed robbery that occurred in 2008. Friends and family mourned the loss of a man who, despite a troubled past, had been making strides toward a different future. A funeral mass was held for him at St. Peter Church on January 14, 2015.
